Kapamilya

I am so busy that watching dramas on a regular basis becomes a rare activity. After a rough day, I find myself asleep on the couch while a drama is on. I wish I can return to reviewing dramas like I used to but when there are a lot of dramas to watch I can only watch one per time slot. Network war is still a bitch, if you ask me.

I tried to watch some online but the last time I tried, spyware crashed my pc. It was tragic. I almost swore not to watch anything from the Kapuso station. They can be really greedy. I am also looking at you, pep.ph. Why can’t we just get along and let me link you. These two must really hate bloggers.

Before I go into Anabelle Rama mode, I will just list the shows I am currently watching. Take note that in a week, I can only catch at least three episodes. In the Pinoy drama setting, you won’t miss much anyway.

1. Only You

As ludicrous as the Korean version, this drama is enjoyable after a very busy day when all you wanted to do is to put your feet up and just suspend disbelief, which is exactly what I do when watching this drama.

The funny thing is that the supporting cast of this drama acts better than all the three leads combined. Angel still needs a stylist and Sam and Diether should do their scenes without their shirts on to create the extra oomph to their characters. Just sayin’.

2. Tayong Dalawa

I have to admit that I am a Kimerald fan. They are not the best love team out there but I like them just the same. During the first few months I was hooked on their fast-paced storyline and fantastic cast. It was like Maging Sino Ka Man 2.0 but like that drama, it was slowly losing steam and my interest as they begin to kill off characters and interesting characterizations. Although it is still a good watch in my book regardless of its faults.

3. May Bukas Pa

Honestly, I get to watch this when my family does. It is a positive-themed drama which I usually steers away from. I have to commend its theme-based subplots which may not be an original concept (think procedurals) but is a fresh take of a Pinoy drama in general. I also think that by doing that they minimize the platitude-thumping stance that makes us mere mortals feeling unworthy.

There you go. These are the three dramas that I am watching. The three of you who are reading this might ask, where is the Kapuso staples like Zorro or Rosalinda? Sad to say that I have not watched them in a while or have not seen Rosalinda yet for that matter. I saw the promos of the new dramas from the Kapuso channel and I promise to take a look at them in the coming months. I tried to watch Adik Sa’yo but it is not as appealing as it should. I have to say that GMA should stop ripping off known Asian dramas (think Fated to Love You–which breaks my heart) and just create a Pinoy adaptation instead. I think they are quite capable in doing that, so they should do more of that.

What’s up with this ratings? I was up and finished with my first post and here I saw a second set of ratings from a different outfit (the other one was AGB Nielsen). This time it is with Taylor Nelson Sofres (TNS), an outfit I have never heard of.

Their ratings are from Apr 2-5. I again took this from pep.ph who would not want me to post the entire listing here so I am just going to post the important ones. I rarely watch Pinoy TV on weekends because no dramas are showing during these days so I am going to focus on their Friday stats.

May Bukas Pa topped their ratings survey. This is a show so nauseatingly positive, I do my work while I have this on. I think the cast is pretty solid, I just have an aversion to cute leads that I cannot have a crush on. Still, a lot of people that I know loved this show and I think it is not too bad.

I was ranting a while back that Tayong Dalawa was not even in the top 5 when this is a good show. I like the show a lot not much for the leads but for the solid cast that supports it. I think ABS-CBN is using its big coffers to bankroll a talented cast for a drama such as this one. I just hope that it will be able to hold up to its good run. The crazy Dave subplot is something that I am not comfortable with, although that would be for another post.

I Love Betty La Fea wrapped up already but in this ratings list it is in the top 3. Sadly, like Ako si Kim Sam Soon, I grew tired when the convuluted plot went up and bit the main lead in the butt. Plus, she did not get her makeover which is the whole point of the social commentary of the show. Oh well, I should have aired my sentiments earlier. Now all I got will be the reruns.

If Totoy Bato was the number one show in the AGB Nielsen survey, it is the fifth show here. You know how I feel about them. I’d rather go get coffee.

I love the robe, though

It is quite funny that I am updating this blog now. It’s been like what, almost a  year? I once tried to delete this blog but I really loved watching TV and although I was under a lot of crap the past few months, TV got me through. So what happened when I was gone? I checked pep.ph’s latest TV ratings and I think I am not liking what I have seen, meaning I am not much of a fan of most of those on the list but sometimes ratings can be quite ludicrous.  Doraemon is a hot cartoon, but really, top ten?

The top show for primetime is Totoy Bato, a show that has the three people I love (no, only Robin is the actor although for some still debatable) but I cannot watch them all together. I am a big fan of ham but I think I already gave Manny Pacquiao my love by watching all his fights. Regine, I adore you in Ako si Kim Sam Soon but a dramatic actress you are not.

Yes, I know this is not Richard but everything in this show is locked.

I am leaving judgment on Richard G.’s show, Zorro because I honestly have not seen it. I tried to make an effort but the trailer bored me and Project Runway was on…

It bothers me to find the worst written drama in primetime today, Ang Babaeng Hinugot sa Aking Tadyang even on the top 5. I tried to watch a few episodes but I love my brain too much that I need to walk awayfrom it. I think I prefer to watch badgers play (see above) than watch Marian contort her pretty face.

I was meaning to see All About Eve some time this week. As anyone who’s been reading, posts the last year I am a big kdrama fan and All About Eve is one of the classics. Friends who watch the show recommends this and from the lineup (Sunshine Dizon, Iza Calzado, Mark Anthony Fernandez), I know I will not hold the barf bag. Before I checked the ratings, I thought this was the one on top of the ratings. Again, good writing and production values (not my opinion–yet!) took a back seat once more.

Of all the shows in this list what pains me most is that Tayong Dalawa is at number 6. In fact, this is the only show that I have sat through from the time it was premiered up until yesterday. I don’t know if I will do recaps this late but if I would, I will recap this show. That gives me an idea…

I don’t know if the ratings will change next week but I know it will change. Hard for me as it may be, I have to accept the reality that the shows that I like rarely becomes a run away hit. Then again, a lot of shows will be premiering next week. I am again excited.
